Do you have coal mines in the vicinity of Philipsburg? My grandfather had his photograph taken in Philipsburg around 1889 and he was a coal miner from England. He did work in W. Virginia but I don't know what he was doing in Philipsburg.

I was born in Philipsburg in 1950 and lived there at Cold Stream until 1964 when my Dad died, Dr. E. F. Stewart. He is buried there. It was a great place and my twin brother and I, Greg, and my older brother Peter Ayotte, often recount many memories. We are all still in Canada. Greg and I are in Ottawa and Peter is in Edmonton. Great site...could go back and retire there. Love to all..........Danielle

Hello, I am searching for friend of mine that lived in Philipsburg when I knew her about 4 years ago. Her name is Stephanie Reigel and she owned her home, although i dont recall where exactly it was located. She worked in NJ during the time I knew her and I am trying to find her again. I believe her family is in the area as well. She would be about 30 and this is her maiden name, she could be married by now. Anyone that may know her please help! Thank you!

I'm also proud to say that I'm from Philipsburg!!
Growing up in Philipsburg I have learned much
about my town's history. I'm glad that there
are people here in Philipsburg who want to
keep the town looking the way it did a hundred
years ago. I wish the younger generation would
learn that there is more to this town and
not to distroy it. Not everyone can say they
live in a town which had the first screw factory,
first church to have electric lights and most
of all there own "town song" Yes, I must say
that I'm very proud to be from Philipsburg!!!

As a former resident of Philipsburg from about
1943 to 1963, I would like to congratulate
you on your site. I found it very informative
and learned things I had not kown about my
home town.
As I recall, I remember seeing a book on Philipsburg
history that was printed on or before the
Philipsburg's Sesquicentennial celebration.
I think it contained some more history, such
as when various homes were built. The one
entry I remember was that the Simler's were
building new house in north Philipsburg (9th
street) in about 1865.
If by chance Shirely Shore is a contributor

So nice to see a website on Philipsburg,I
lived in West Decatur till 18,then moved to
Philipsburg.I remember all the stores,going
to town when we were small and how the streets
were packed with people. Kids today can not
imagine what it looked like back then. A&R
department store? Grants? McCrory's,Sam's?
Browns boot shop?Little restaurant? Silco's?
C&M Dairy? Widmann's? When it was not a one
way street? I love to see the buildings getting
spruced up now. And I love to see everyone
in philipsburg still have that hometown pride, and
when they turn out for events to celebrate
this town. Good job on this website.

This is an extremely well-done site - bravo!
The pictures are absolutely beautiful, and
the historical information is wonderful. We
just had one of our radio listeners email
us asking for the address of this website,
and I remembered it from our local news...
It reminded me to come visit the site, and
I'm very glad I did! Tuesday,

Loved the site - didn't know the history of
Philipsburg. I grew up in Grassflat, PA and
shopped in Philipsburg almost every Saturday!
It was sad to see that the stores I remember
shopping at are gone! Had some good times
at the Majestic Theater (which I know is still
there) and worked at the Five and Dime. Thanks
for the memories! Anne Lucas Ryba

Hi! I'm a Philipsburg native (Tom & Jan Scott's
daughter) and now live in NE PA, and would
like to say that I enjoyed reading your web
page and that I learned a lot about our town's
history. Thanks for putting Philipsburg on
the web! Thursday,
