Penn State business center to open Philipsburg office |

Penn State’s Small Business Development Center has received a grant to open an office in downtown Philipsburg.
The $99,990 rural business enterprise grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will allow the organization to better provide Philipsburg businesses with its free consulting services, center Director Heather Fennessey said.
“I think it’s great and I’m really looking forward to launching the office and seeing its impact,” Fennessey said.
The grant is a federal investment in job creation and retention, which is more necessary in rural areas with higher unemployment rates and lower average incomes, Fennessey said.
The grant has already saved one job. Funding to the Penn State SBDC was cut 46 percent last year and a further 26 percent in this year’s budget. David Jordan, who was to be laid off as a result, will now be kept on to run the Philipsburg office, Fennessey said. |
