MVEDP AND PRC TO PRESENT AWARDS PDF Print E-mail

PHILIPSBURG- The Moshannon Valley Economic Development Partnership and Philipsburg Revitalization Corporation will hold a combined Annual Awards Gala on May 3, 2012 in the Grand Ballroom at The Hotel Philips in Historic Downtown Philipsburg.  This is the 24th year the MVEDP has been presenting awards and the 10th for the PRC. Awards will be presented honoring outstanding individual and organizational contributions to the Moshannon Valley. The award winners will be presented beautiful plaques made by Front Street Jewelers in Philipsburg.

The evening will begin at 5:30 pm with hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. The award presentations will begin at 6:30 pm. The event is being sponsored by Clearfield Bank and Trust; other sponsors include Fred Diehl, the Moshannon Valley branch of the Centre County YMCA, Harkins Family Dentistry, Charles A Jones Insurance, Christoff Mitchell Petroleum, Starr Hill Winery and Vineyard, and The Gaslight Café.

“We are honored to announce C. Alan Walker, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development has agreed to be the keynote speaker for the event” said John Shimko, President of the MVEDP.  “Walker is an active local businessman and has been involved in with the Pennsylvania Chamber of Commerce, we are looking forward to hearing him speak” Shimko continued.

The Partnership is a private, non-profit corporation whose mission it is to further the economic development of the Moshannon Valley area by getting involved in real estate projects, housing improvements or other community development efforts.  The Partnership works to stimulate job creation and job retention by working with existing businesses, entrepreneurs, and companies that might be interested in locating to the Moshannon Valley. The Philipsburg Revitalization Corporation, Inc. is a non-profit community development organization which supports the development and enhancement of Philipsburg's business district and the preservation of historic areas.

Philipsburg Chocolate Winners Announced! PDF Print E-mail

The Philipsburg Main Street Program Promotion Committee held its 10th Annual Chocolate Fest on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Club Squared in Historic Downtown Philipsburg. Over 100 people attended the event and spent the afternoon sampling chocolate from about 20 entrants and voting for their favorites.

Judging was conducted by a “change war.” The winner in the adult category was Philipsburg resident Cathy Kassab who received a $50 cash prize and Bethany Boulton took first place receiving a $25 cash prize in the Youth category. Both prizes were sponsored by the Philipsburg Main Street Program. All proceeds benefit the Philipsburg Main Street Program’s downtown revitalization efforts. Chocolate Fest is held annually on the Saturday before Lent begins at revolving locations throughout the Main Street Program area. The Main Street Program would like to thank Club Squared for hosting, WPHB for broadcasting, thank those who submitted chocolate for tasting, those who attended the event, and all the volunteers who helped put the event together!
