  • Livable neighborhood that will provide all of the benefits of a hospitality hub, plus meet the day-to-day shopping, service, and housing needs of nearby residents.

Overview PDF Print E-mail

The Main Street Program is a national comprehensive approach to downtown revitalization. The program is operated in Philipsburg by the Philipsburg Revitalization Corporation. The Main Street Approach looks at downtown revitalization through the eyes of four standing committees: Organization, Design, Economic Restructuring, and Promotion. The Main Street Program is administered nationally by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by the Pennsylvania Downtown Center. The Philipsburg Revitalization Corporation is a member of both of these organizations. Each member of the Board of Directors of the Philipsburg Revitalization Corporation, and the Main Street Manager have been trained in the Main Street Approach by the Pennsylvania Downtown Center.

Committees PDF Print E-mail

Organization Committee

Organization means getting everyone working towards common goals. The common-sense formula of a volunteer-driven program and an organizational structure of board and committees assisting professional management can ease the difficult work of building consensus and cooperation among the varied groups that have a stake in the district.

Chairperson: Karen Blair; Meeting Time: 1st Monday @ 2:00 at the PRC Office

Economic Restructuring Committee

Economic Restructuring means finding new or better purposes for Main Street enterprises. Helping existing downtown businesses expand and recruiting new ones, a successful Main Street converts unused space into productive property and sharpens the competitiveness of its businesses.

Chairperson: Jim Pollock, Meeting Time: 2nd Wednesday @ 12:00 at the Gaslight Cafe

Promotion Committee

Promotion means selling the image and promise of Main Street to all prospects. By marketing the district's unique characteristics through advertising, retail promotional activities, special events, and marketing campaigns an effective promotion strategy forges a positive image to shoppers, investors, new businesses and visitors.

Chairperson: Paul Springer, Meeting Time: 1st Tuesday @ 8:00 AM at the Little Restaurant.

Design Committee

Design means getting Main Street into top physical shape. Capitalizing on its best assets such as historic buildings and the traditional downtown layout is just part of the story. An inviting atmosphere can be created through window displays, parking areas, signs, sidewalks, street lights, and landscaping; good design conveys a visual message about what Main Street is and what it has to offer.

Co-Chairpersons: Denny Wescoat and Walter Swoope, Meeting Time: 1st Wednesday @ 2:00 at the PRC Office
